Hundreds, if not thousands of gay couples who were married are now unsure if their marriage still exists. Does anyone else find this ironic?

The Christian Right, in all their self-centered hubris, have been declaring for years that gay marriage would "destroy marriages" -- that it would somehow affect straight marriages by weakening the term. (I mean, more than Britney's 24-hr marriage and the 50% divorce rate already do...)

I can't find one example of a straight marriage that has dissolved due to gay marriage, but I can now find several hundred gay marriages that have dissolved due to the recent ban. Ironic.

I wonder if atheists like myself should also be banned from marriage, because if there's anything God hates more than gays and shellfish, it's an atheist.

So fuck everyone who voted yes to social inequality and "separate but equal." If you don't want a gay marriage, then don't have one, but stop imposing your opinions on others, and citing your silly skydaddy as the reason for your utter lack of empathy to those who are different from you.
Early on, McCain and Obama both put in strong performances. They both
came out swinging. I don't like that they question-dodged so much at
the onset, but I'm starting to get used to that.

As the debate raged on though, you could see Obama pulling ahead -- his
answers were clear, cohesive and directed, whereas McCain seemed to ramble about
his record. Yes, we get it, you've been around longer. Yes, we get
it, you think Obama doesn't understand anything, including the
connection between Iraq and Afghanistan, despite his saying there is a
connection between the two in his previous answer.

McCain's insistent mischaracterization of Obama's position on meeting
with Iran "without preconditions" was childish, particularly after he
was called out on it. Obama isn't talking about meeting face-to-face
with the Iranian president. Everyone knows that. So criticisms of
that position are irrelevant. It's called a strawman fallacy -- you
set up a fake position of your opponent, and then criticize it. It's
silly, it's childish, and I expected more from McCain than that.

Finally, in terms of bipartisan conduct, throughout the debate Obama
would compliment those parts of McCain's position that he agreed with.
The most forceful of this was his position on torture, where Obama
praised McCain's leadership in that area. (Which shows a lot of confidence, by the way...) By contrast, McCain was
constantly on the attack, even when he had the opportunity to agree
with Obama on certain issues. Who is more bipartisan? It was
obvious. Even after the debate, just look at the distance across the
stage that Obama brings Michelle to shake hands with McCain's wife.
It's minor, but it's an example of his internal thought process -- he
goes out of his way to reach out and build bridges.

I can't wait for him to be president. :)

Thursday, September 25, 2008

PREDICTION:
(I don't do this often, but I feel good about this one)

Republicans will continue to hem and haw on the economic crisis bailout deal until the 11th hour (say.... Sunday night?), then suddenly come around, praising John McCain for breaking the stalemate. Democrats will claim the new deal is substantially similar to Thursday morning's bill, which they had all agreed to until McCain swooped in with some changes, most of which were ultimately rejected, but at least one made it in. McCain will unsuspend his campaign and immediately use the recent crisis as an example of his "Country First" leadership, which the Republican base will eat up, even though it's a farse.

You read it here first, people.
Monday, September 01, 2008

Dead.

That's the status of my phone. So if I haven't called or texted you in a while -- that's why.

I'm going to try to get a new phone quickly, since I have to fly back to the east coast this weekend to go skydiving with my 80-yr old aunt. Awesome. :)
